ACTION CONTINUES IN ADULT TENNIS LEAGUE
Action continues in the 2007 USTA/VITA Chrysler Adult Mixed Doubles League throughout the Virgin Islands. Ninety-five tennis players are competing in a round-robin format of mixed doubles in the St. Thomas-St. John and the St. Croix Districts.
On St. Croix, the Cruzan Aces, led by Captain Dynel Sota, are leading in the 8.0 combined flight with a 4-0 record. The Cruzan Racquets, led by Captain Susan Armstrong, follow closely with a 3-1 record. The Hotshots, led by Captain Liz Fox, and the Spider Monkeys, led by Captain Melanie Conhoff, follow with 1-3 and 0-4 records respectfully.
In the Cruzan 7.0 combined flight The Hurricanes, led by Captain Isabel Brady, narrowly lead the Cruzan Wreakers, led by Captain Sharon Quinn. The Hurricanes have a 3-1 record while the Cruzan Wreakers have a 3-2 record. The Buccaneers, led by Captain Bob Chaput, and Mixed Troubles, led by Captain Jacqueline Mashburn, follow with 2-3 and 1-3 records respectfully.
On St. Thomas, Fenella’s Team and Megan’s Team, led by Captains Fenella Cooper and Megan Boyle respectfully, are tied at 1-1 in the 7.0 combined flight.
Competition continues in a mixed doubles round robin team format through October 21st. The championship team in the 7.0 combined flights from both the St. Croix and the St. Thomas-St. John Districts and the top two teams from the 8.0 combined flight from the St. Croix District will qualify for the Caribbean Sectional Championships to be held at the Honda Center in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, November 2-4.

St. Croix junior tennis players dominated the second tournament in the HOVENSA/VITA Junior Tennis Tournament Series held last weekend at the St. Thomas Racquet Club. Five of the six junior singles titles were won by Cruzians. The sole St. Thomian winner was Cajay Jacobs in the girls 14 and under division. Ashley Lawrence went undefeated in round-robin play winning the girl’s 18 title followed by Safiya Taylor and Khadija Thomas. Jacobs won the girl’s 14 title beating Leah DeWilde 7-5 6-2 in the finals. Savannah Logan beat Madeleine Duggan 6-3 6-1 to win the girl’s 14 consolation. Lorhra Emmanuel beat Hanna Shuck 6-1 6-2 to win the girl’s 12 title. Devon Locke continued his winning ways by going undefeated in the boy’s 18 and under round-robin competition. Akeel Simon and Eric Emmanuel finished second and third respectively. Andy Feldman won the boy’s 16 and under title beating Brooks Kelly 6-0 6-0 in the finals. Ajaime Monell defeated David Emmanuel 6-0 6-3 in the boy’s 16 consolation. Danny Kenses defeated Wilbur Williams 6-3 6-4 to win the boy’s 12 title. Alex Kenses defeated Jemoi Gerald 6-2 6-2 in the boys 12 consolation. Twenty-six junior tennis players competed in the second of seven junior tournaments sponsored by HOVENSA. The third stop in the junior tennis series will be played at the Buccaneer Tennis Club on St. Croix April 13-15. DEWILDE PLAYING IN THE GIRL’S 14 AND 16 AGE GROUPS AND FELDMAN PLAYING IN THE BOY’S 14 AND 16 AGE GROUPS WON THEIR RESPECTIVE TITLES. DEWILDE BEAT MADELEINE DUGGAN 7-6 AND 6-1 IN THE 14’S AND BEAT MADELEINE AGAIN IN THE 16’S IN A TOUGH 6-7 6-1 7-6 FINALS. MEANWHILE FELDMAN WON BOTH THE BOY’S 14 AND 16 ROUND-ROBIN EVENTS WHILE NEVER LOSING A SET. BILL BYRD FINISHED SECOND IN BOTH BOY’S 14 AND 16’S WHILE DAVID EMMANUEL FINISHED 3RD IN THE 14’S AND ANJAY MONNELL FINISHED 3RD IN THE 16’S.

1st Annual HOVENSA Junior Tennis Tournament Series
HOVENSA LLC and the Virgin Islands Tennis Association are pleased to announce the 1st Annual HOVENSA Junior Tennis Tournament Series. This circuit of seven junior age group tournaments will be played throughout the Virgin Islands beginning on February 16th at the Tennis Club of St. Croix. Junior tennis players will have the opportunity to showcase their tennis playing skills while having the chance to earn a district ranking and possible selection on the VITA National Junior Team. Junior age group categories consist of boys and girls, 18-16-14-12-10 and under singles. All participants must be USTA members.

Junior Tennis Program at Tamarind Reef
January 8, 2007Head Pro Robert Nuscher will be starting a Junior Tennis Program at Tamarind Reef starting in mid-January.
Clinics
- 8-12 children total
- Clinic will be hel two times per week for 4-6 year olds. The sessions will run for 30-45 minutes.
- Junior practice for 7-10 year olds, twice per week. The sessions will run for 90 minutes.
- Junior practice for 11-16 year olds, twice per week. The sessions will run for 90 minutes.
- Time and days to be determined based on schedules.
- Round Robin match play available on Saturdays.
Competitive Match Play
A junior tennis ladder will be established to rank juniors based on age and gender. Players will then play challenge matches to move up the ladder.
Player Assessments
At the end of each 8 week session, students and parents will receive a progress report discussing the child’s strengths, weaknesses, match play evaluation and goal recognition.
Cost
- 4-6 year olds Individual sessions - $15.00. 8 week package - $200
- 7-10 year olds Individual sessions - $20.00. 8 week package - $260
- 11-16 year olds Individual sessions - $20.00. 8 week package - $260
Court Usage
- Juniors will have use of the courts only while the Pro is at the facility.
- Juniors will have use of the bathrooms and shower facilities during practice hours.
- Juniors will have use of the courts Saturday mornings for match play.

FEES: No Entry Fee
DEADLINE: Monday, December 4th
RULES: All matches will be two out of three sets with 12 point tiebreakers in accordance with USTA rules. The 10 and under category will play one six game set. Defaults will be imposed 15 minutes after scheduled time if courts are available. Balls will be provided.
